USA: Amtrak

Infrastructures

Service Point, through its US subsidiary Service Point USA, has signed a document management services contract with Amtrak, the US national railway company.

The document management services contracted with Service Point USA entail the digitalisation of large format technical documents detailing the railroad systems and structures, passenger stations and tunnels and bridges throughout the company's network. Service Point US will also provide document management services and software for the creation of an intelligent digital archive.

Amtrak (also known as the National Railroad Passenger Corporation) manages the nationwide railroad system in the US, servicing over 500 destinations across 46 states covering a vast 21,000 kilometres of routes. Amtrak has over 19,000 employees. An average of 777,000 passengers avail of Amtrak's services every day. The infrastructure is owned by Amtrak.

According to Rafael López-Aparicio, CEO of SPS, "this important contract, with a company of the scale of Amtrak, underscores two key aspects of SPS' strategy; on the one hand the increasing contribution to revenues of document management services in new sectors against an intensely competitive backdrop, and, on the other, the ability to generate operational synergies by introducing innovative services - in this instance by using the echive(R) software platform developed by Open Archive Systems, a software development company acquired by SPS in mid-2006".
